2024 New York Film Critics Circle Award Winners

Last night the New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) announced their awards for the current season and as we can see below, they spread their honors into several films as only The Brutalist and Nickel Boys were able to gather 2 awards each.  The Brutalist got one for Best Film and another to Best Actor and Nickel Boys got Best Director and Best Cinematography.

Also, it proves what many film pundits have been writing about, 2025 Oscars -and indeed the 2024/2025 awards season- has no front-runner in top categories as there are many great films with great actor's performances and votes will spread among them all. In about a month when the last film critic's group announces their winners, we will know what the industry critics believe should be honored and then guess if Academy members could think the same.

Most notable is the win for Latvia's submission to #Oscars2024 International Feature Film, Flow by Gints Zilbalodis that was premiered in #Cannes2024 Un Certain Regard section, will not be surprised if film also gets in the animated film Oscars shortlist and probably gets a nomination. Also the film that should have been India's submission but is not, All We Imagine as Light by Payal Kapadia, got honored by this group and is the second award film collects in two days of award's announcements.

According to the oldest film critic group in the USA official site info, since 1935 the Academy Awards have given best picture to 43% of the NYFCC’s picks; so, after the first film critic group announced their winners, The Brutalist has upped their chances to win AMPAS top award. Today the NBR will announce their winners and will start to show if there is a trend, or not, in any category.
