2025 BAFTA Awards
A few minutes ago actors Mia McKenna-Bruce and Will Sharpe announced the nominations via a live broadcast from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts 195 Piccadilly in London announced the nominations for the 2025 edition of the Film Awards that celebrate the very best in film over the past year.
From a total of 235 films entered, 42 films received a nomination and Conclave leads with 12 nominations followed by Emilia Pérez with 11 and The Brutalist with 9. Not a milestone was achieved (again) as only 12 of the nominated films are directed by women.
In the Best Director category, three of the six are first-time Director nominees (and nominees for Original Screenplay): Sean Baker (Anora) (who has the most nominations this year, with five), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist) and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance).
Fourteen out of the 24 nominees in the performance categories have received their firs BAFTA film nomination, including Kieran Culkin, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, Demi Moore, Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong among others. Also, two former EE Rising Stars are nominated: Cynthia Erivo (2019), and Timothée Chalamet (2018).
In the Best Director category, three of the six are first-time Director nominees (and nominees for Original Screenplay): Sean Baker for Anora (who has the most nominations this year, with five), Brady Corbet for The Brutalist and Coralie Fargeat for The Substance.
The nominees for the EE Rising Star Award were announced on 7 January as Marisa Abela, Jharrel Jerome, David Jonsson, Mikey Madison, and Nabhaan Rizwan. It is the only award voted for by the British public and it is presented annually to a performer who has demonstrated exceptional talent early in their careers. If you wish to vote go here.
The EE BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will once again be held at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in central London, and broadcast on Sunday 16 February 2025 on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK, stream on BritBox International in North America, and be available on BritBox on demand in the Nordics and Australia. The rest of the world will follow social media as there are many users posting winners live.
