76th Berlin International Film Festival Line-Up - In Progress

Please note: this post is a Work In Progress until all films have all info at official site, which usually happens a week or two before the festival begins.
This year the festival will run from February 12 to February 22 and the Program Press Conference is scheduled to be held on January 20, 2026 and will be available to watch from 10:45 CET on Berlinale live stream and live on YouTube.
Festival Director Tricia Tuttle gives an overview of the entire festival program. She will then present the films in the Competition and the Perspectives section together with the Co-Directors of Film Programming Jacqueline Lyanga and Michael Stütz.
European Film Market
The European Film Market (EFM), taking place from February 12 to 18, 2026 as a key part of the 76th Berlinale, officially launches its new edition with an expanded programme, new strategic partnerships, and a continued focus on innovation and cross-sector collaboration to reflect the evolving needs of the global audiovisual industry.
The first edition of the EFM Animation Days marks a major expansion of the Market’s portfolio. Over three days, the program gathers global animation creatives, studios, producers, buyers, financiers and cross-IP partners for curated showcases, pitch formats, case studies, workshops and networking opportunities.
In 2026 the EFM spotlights Morocco as its Country in Focus, highlighting the exceptional production landscape and co-production potential. Through curated pitching sessions, showcases and networking events, the EFM sheds a spotlight on one of the most dynamic creative countries in the MENA region.
The Poster
Colorful, festive, and playful, the bear returns to the center of the poster and media campaign. The beloved symbol of the festival takes shape in a composition of bright colours that convey movement, vitality, and light in the darkness — just like cinema itself. Berlin-based graphic designer Claudia Schramke has once again created this year’s festival poster.

Homage
The Berlin International Film Festival will award the 2026 Honorary Golden Bear to Academy Award–winning actress Michelle Yeoh in recognition of her outstanding achievements in film and cinema. The award will be presented at the Opening Ceremony at the Berlinale Palast on February 12, 2026.
Michelle Yeoh is considered one of the most versatile and influential actresses of her generation. With a career spanning four decades and multiple continents, she has made a lasting impact on international cinema.
Michelle Yeoh served as a member of the Berlinale International Jury in 1999. Since then, she has captivated audiences at the Berlinale and around the world time and again with work such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and more recently the phenomenon that was Everything Everywhere All at Once.
The Selection
My spontaneous first impression of the films In Competition is that selection is very-strange as for example, there are some well-known directors like Kornél Mundruczó but his doing a film in English with well-know actors like Amy Adams, Brett Goldstein and Dan Levy; then there is Lance Hammer with a film starring Juliette Binoche in English and Brazillian Karim Karim Aïnouz with a film in English starring Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, Callum Turner, Elle Fanning and Pamela Anderson. Yes, there will be stars in the red carpet as also there are films starring Bill Pullman, Laurie Metcalf, John C. Reilly, Channing Tatum, Gemma Chan, Tom Courtenay, and Sandra Hüller .

Forum
The Berlinale Forum sharpens the gaze for films of social relevance and as a form of aesthetic reflection. These are films by people who take their work and its impact seriously: the way it affects our coexistence, our battles, our reconciliations, our history and stories, how togetherness, beauty and solidarity are experienced and how we shape our social, cultural, ecological and political present and future.

Forum Expanded
Gaps and omissions, counter-narratives and revisions: many of the film works selected focus on the ways in which individuals and states write their histories. Against the backdrop of current political developments across the world, increasing uncertainty and ongoing wars, the question of who is granted the authority to make historical assessments and designations is explored, as is the possibility of other perspectives. The installations, films, videos and performances from 30 countries thus bring fissures and ruptures to light, pointing to things seemingly forgotten whose presence remains palpable despite all the attempts made to deny them.

Berlinale Shorts
Twenty-one films explore the variety of the short form. Animation films catapult a love rocket into the universe of longing and let “non‑flying objects” collide with absurd attempts of classification. Queer love stories explore genre films to draw new images of masculinity. Archival photos are collaged, commented on from opposing perspectives or transformed into moving images using artificial intelligence. Optical experiments make us doubt our perception and when the world turns upside down, the camera follows.
