3:10 To Yuma

I’m no fan of the western genre but decided to give this movie a try, as been hearing good things about it. Sort of remember the last western I saw, was one with Clint Eastwood a long, long time ago and it was good. Can’t believe I’m writing this but this one is very good too as makes you feel emotions mainly because the extremely good performances by Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.

This remake of a 1957 movie tells the story of a lame rancher Dan (Christian Bale) that takes a stagecoach robber Ben (Russell Crowe) to the train that’s going to take him to jail. But the trip from the ranch to the train is a war of nerves that will hold your attention and interest beyond being just normal entertaining.

I suppose that almost everyone dies, there are horse riding, shootings and everything a western must have; but you do not really care (if you do not like westerns like me) as the drama and tension is more interesting to follow and feel. It is a very engaging film, even if the story at the end is a little not so credible, but still we get a glimpse of what comes next and makes it more believable.

Have to say that I have seen Christian Bale in several movies and he was average, but here he truly excels himself and at times even Russell Crowe. But Crowe is really good in roles like this one where he has to be macho tough and human soft at the same time.

Believe this film has wider audience than those that like westerns, this is a good male bonding drama with excellent performances not to miss just because is a western. So I suggest you give it a try and perhaps you’ll like it as much as I did.

Enjoy!
