65th Venice Film Festival News

Today the shorts awards were announced and here they are.

Corto Cortissimo Lion: Tierra y Pan (Earth and Bread), Carlos Armella, Mexico
For the following reason: “In few minutes and a single space, the author managed to tell a dramatic story about misery and solitude, exploiting at maximum the narrative potentials of cinematographic images”.

Special Mention: Vacsora (The Dinner), Karchi Perlmann, Hungary
For the following reason: “Using a language at the same time realistic and grotesque, and an image-sound relation with a strong emotional strain, the author portrayed a human and social condition ruled by the uncertainty of life and death”.

Prix UIP for the best European short film: De Onbaatzunchtigen (The Altruists) by Koen Dejaegher (Belgium)
For the following reason: “The author depicted in a clear and unusual way an absurd situation, revealing the economic repercussions of interpersonal relationships within European society”.
