Notturno Bus (Night Bus)

This Davide Marengo movie is loosely based on the novel with the same name by Giampero Rigosi is a crime/thriller/drama/comedy that is entertaining and very similar to any American crime/thriller/drama, except for the comedy part that’s totally Italian.

Tells a story about some thugs that are after a microchip that ends up in the hands of a thief Leila (Giovana Mezzogiorno) who with the help of the night bus driver engage in a cat-mouse chase that ends with the proverbial romance where opposites attract each other. The film has a very simple story told in a well-done film that has nothing to envy the American counterpart genre.

As a movie is fast paced with good cinematography and above average performances that keep you basically entertained. I think I missed a more arty movie, but then you cannot always get everything.

Still the movie has some awards and nominations in Italian Awards and it seems that this year Italian cinema went for the commercial movies at least more than for the arty ones, but then we have to remember La ragazza del lago that was an outstanding and arty thriller.

I had to see this movie because Giovana Mezzogiorno and I wasn't disappointed at all, as she performs good and looks extremely beautiful . I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually an American remake appears, as has the structure that American audiences like the most.

So, if you want to see the original before someone do the remake, then perhaps you should give it a try and have some good escape time Italian style.

Enjoy.
