8th Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival Award Winners


Described as “The Swiss event for Fantastic Films, Asian Cinema & Future Images” the fest screens mostly sci-fi and fantasy films and even if I’m no fan of those genres, what can be more interesting that finding films that belong to the genres and also to the art or art house cinema? The fest run from July 1st to 6th and here are some of the award winners.

Prix H.R. Giger « Narcisse » for Best Film: Sleep Dealer, Alex Rivera, USA and Mexico, 2008 (seems interesting and arty…)
Special Jury Mention
Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In), Tomas Alfredson, Sweden, 2008 (vampires and very arty)
Tôkyô! (Tokyo!), Bong Joon-ho, Leos Carax and Michel Gondry, France, Japan, Germany and South Korea, 2008 (Cannes Un Certain Regard…)

Silver Méliès for Best European Feature Film: Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One in) Tomas Alfredson, Sweden
TSR Audience Award: Cheung Gong 7 hou (CJ7), Stephen Chow, Hong Kong, 2008 (a movie for children all ages…)
Mad Movies Award: Om Shanti Om, Farha Khan, India (A crazy Bollywood movie… hmm could be “different”!)
