The Other Boleyn Girl

Hi! I’m sort of back after a few days of absence, mainly because now I’m a year older and hopefully -but not likely- wiser… lol! I have to say that I decided to watch this movie because the actors as this movie has a very good looking actors casting with Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Eric Bana; also, I wasn’t sure what to expect from it as I knew almost nothing else about this movie.

Well, let me tell you that if you want to see a history accurate movie you better skip it, as the movie is based on a best selling historical novel by Philippa Gregory, a book that proposes to review history in a different way. On top, the movie seems not to follow the book faithfully as many interesting things were taken out, skipped and/or not mentioned at all (like George Boleyn being homosexual).

So, if you still feel like seeing this movie I suggest you try to forget your history and sit to enjoy a tale of two sisters and their manipulative family that tells more about siblings “Cruel Intentions” than anything else and the tale is told in a very-very melodramatic way.

With all this said, have to admit that the movie is enjoyable to watch because it is visually outstandingly good as was filmed with high definition, has spectacular settings and the most wonderful period costumes. Acting is not bad, especially Johansson simple and submissive Mary Boleyn, nice to look Bana as Henry VIII, small role but impressive Scott Thomas as Elizabeth Boleyn and the exception is Portman that in my opinion overacts and becomes a less credible/interesting Anne Boleyn.

This is a good movie to watch as a movie with very good production values and performances, but you have to have ready a mindset of looking forward to see a “regular” story and not a history review or lesson.

Not a great movie but one that could entertain general audiences that enjoy good looking period dramas.
