Cannes News Update

According to the latest press release the following films are to complete the 2008 selection for the Festival de Cannes.

In Competition
Opening the Festival: Blindness, Fernando Mereilles, Brazil, Canada and Japan
Entre les Murs, Laurent Cantet, France
Two Lovers, James Gray, USA

Closing the Festival (out of competition): What Just Happened, Barry Levinson, USA

The Jury, presided by Sean Penn, welcomes two new members, the French actress Jeanne Balibar and the Iranian author-director Marjane Satrapi. Robert de Niro will present the Palme d’Or, awarded by the Jury, on Sunday May 25th.

Opening Film: Hunger, Steve McQueen, UK

By the way, the official poster of the Festival de Cannes 2008 is a photograph by David Lynch, adapted by Pierre Collier, a cinema poster artist. This tribute to the talent of David Lynch provides the tone for the 61st Festival de Cannes.
