Irina Palm

Like a critic says this is “a funny, touching and original coming-of-age tale with a big difference: the person coming of age is way past menopause rather than decades ahead of it” and you have no idea how accurate he is.

The movie tells the story of Maggie, a 50-year-old widow – still faithful to her dead husband, that desperately needs some money to pay for medical treatment for her ill grandson and let me tell you that she does find a job and what a job!

This Sam Garbaski movie would not have been the same if Marianne Faithfull was not cast as Maggie aka Irina Palm, she is extraordinary and she speaks more in her silences, stares, expressions and glances, great performance! This is absolutely her movie. I still remember when she was the famous young singer and have to say that she still looks great, older but great!

Marianne is nominated for Best Actress in the 20th European Film Awards and she really deserves it and even if she’s against very strong contenders, she is another strong nominee. The movie won an award at the 2007 Berlinale and has more nominations in European and interantional festivals and awards.

This is a must be seen movie for Marianne Faithfull performance, but you have to like European cinema.

Enjoy!!
