In the Land of Women

Nice little movie written and directed by Jon Kasdan that I decided to watch to for entertaining purposes and it was a lot better than what I expected.

Tells the story of Carter (Adam Brody) a TV writer that after a breakup with a famous actress decides to go to care for his sick grandmother and heal his broken hearth, while trying to finish a story he is writing. Then just across the street he meets the Hardwicke family and they change each other’s lives forever.

Actors gave good performances, but it is Olympia Dukakis as the grandmother that steals the movie and makes you laugh, think and feel sorrow. Meg Ryan (Sarah Hardwicke) does an acceptable performance as the mother of two girls Lucy (Kristen Stewart) and Paige (Makenzie Vega). I used to like Meg Ryan movies but lately she has played strange characters, but in this movie I feel she plays a good character and is the first time since a long while . Coming fresh from TV Adam Brody does it quite well with a credible performance.

This is not a teenager’s movie, although it seems was marketed as such so will disappoint many, especially male teen viewers and probably will not appeal to young adults or older, which are the true movie target group. A shame as the story is really nice.

This is a movie that will make you feel emotions and make you feel good… somehow when the movie is over you wish there would be more, you sort of miss them, you want the story to continue, and you want to continue watching more.

Nice movie for a rainy afternoon
