36th Producers Guild Awards
Yesterday, January 16, PGA announced the nominations for Motion Picture and Television categories which finalizes the nominations announcements for this industry guild.
The award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures has historically been considered a strong prognosticator for the Best Picture Oscar, with 16 of the previous 21 winners going on to also win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Lke the Oscars, the PGA nominates 10 films for the prize and decide its winners using a ranked-choice preferential ballot.
PGA list of 10 nominees includes September 5 a film that has not been getting many honors this award season and excludes 2 movies that have been gathering accolades, Sing Sing and Nickel Boys.
At the Producers Guild Awards ceremony in February 8th, the Producers Guild will also present special honors to powerhouse producers and leaders who have left undeniable marks on the industry. Honorees this year include Chris Meledandri with David O. Selznick Achievement Award, Dana Walden with Milestone Award, Taika Waititi with Norman Lear Achievement Award, and Lynda Obst and Paula Weinstein with Trailblazer Award.

December 11, 2024
Yesterday, December 10th, the Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced the 2025 Documentary Motion Picture nominees that will advance to the final round of voting to define a winner of Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at the Fairmont Century Plaza.
As organizers noted, below films are in the process of being vetted for individual producer eligibility which gives me clue to remind all that in this blog the film director is always listed after the movie name.
It is a big surprise to not find No Other Land, an awards season favorite, in the nominees and I'm not sure the reason why. Went to read trade articles but all I could find is that was an omission and nothing about being disqualified. So, went to the official site to read the Rules and Procedures Mark Eligibility - Documentary Motion Pictures (to read them go here) and according to rules, No Other Land qualified. Seems was an omission. Sigh.
The Producers Guild Awards honors excellence in motion picture, television and emerging media productions, as well as the most notable names in the industry shaping the producing profession. Honorees this year include David O. Selznick Achievement Award for Chris Meledandri and Milestone Award for Dana Walden.
This announcement is the first the guild does for its awards, the second is on Friday, January 10th, 2025 when will announce the theatrical motion pictures nominations. It will be then when film producers nominees will be added to the list of nominees for 2025 Awards.
