11th British Independent Film Award Winners

Yesterday they had the awards ceremony and here are some of the winners.


Best British Independent Film: Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle

Best Director of a British Independent Film: Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionaire
The Douglas Hickox Award: Steve McQueen for Hunger
Best Screenplay: Martin McDonagh for In Bruges
Best Actress: Vera Farmiga for The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Best Actor: Michael Fassbender for Hunger
Best Supporting Actress: Alexis Zegerman for Happy-Go-Lucky
Best Suporting Actor: Eddie Marsan for Happy-Go-Lucky
Most Promising Newcomer: Dev Patel for Slumdog Millionaire
Best Foreign Film: Waltz With Bashir

The first major awards of the season are in and some winners probably means nominations for 2009 BAFTA’s. Even if I haven’t seen Slumdog Millionaire have to say that was a surprise that won as my favorite was Hunger. Also Waltz With Bashir winning was surprising when competing with extremely good movies, but I imagine that the movie has to be very powerful; hope I’m able to see it soon.
