8th IIFA Award Winners

These are the 2007 winners for some categories:

Best Film: Rang de Basanti (Paint It Yellow), a political musical about several alienated university students who develop a sense of sociopolitical awareness after getting involved with a filmmaker attempting to make a movie about Indian nationalists who rose up against British rule.

Best Direction: Rajkumar Hirani – Lage Raho Munnabhai

Male Best Performance in a Leading Role: Hrithik Roshan – Krrish (There’s No One Like You)
Female Best Performance in a Leading Role: Rani Mukherji – Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (Never Say Goodbye)

Definitively my favorite category –even do some consider it more than tacky- is the fans vote for Most Glamorous Female Lead where Aishwarya Rai was the undisputable winner. Of course I do agree with the fans!

On a more serious note, director Deepa Metha was honored with the Idea IIFA Award for Outstanding Achievement by an Indian in International Cinema, for her film Water. This is quite outstanding when you think that Water was very controversial in India.

This is what the IIFA show looked live and in the TV sets of millions around the world.

At Cannes 2007 a movie was showcased to find a market beyond the Bollywood circuit, Jodha Akbar with Aish and the today hottest male lead Hsithik Roshan (they are the cute couple of Dhoom 2). This is exactly the Bollywood movie type that I like, as is about a sixteenth century love story about a marriage of alliance between a great Mughal emperor and a Rajput princess, Jodha. This movie will be released on October 12 in India.

Well, I better stop, as this is becoming another Aish exclusive post!!
