Another parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival is the SIC or Semaine Internationale de la Critique and this year Gael Garcia Bernal has been honored by naming him their official Ambassador and they will be screening his first movie as a director Déficit (Mexico) that is also participating for the Camera D'Or Award.

The following 7 feature films are the selection in competition for the Grand Prix.

The FIPRESCI Revelation of the year was awarded to Yo (Me) by Rafa Cortez, Spain and represents the chosen film out of first of second films awarded by the Federation during the previous year it will be also screened here.

Like good critics they are, their site is truly unimpressive so I will not post their link. Also maybe because the synopsis are written by critcs, none called my attention!

If you were thinking that we were finished with Cannes perhaps by now you will realize that this is the most grandiose film festival of all festivals. So many things happening, do you agree?

  1. According to Lina Chamie, the budget of "A Via Láctea" was about 220.000,00 USD. I'm very curious to see how far that movie will go!

  2. Hi Rods!

Yesterday I went crazy with the huge amount of information! I am still trying to digest most of it.

Re A via Lactea, with that amount must be interesting to find out what is all about... but still, is the only one within the Selection that does not participate in the Camera d'Or... maybe the budget did not help to make a total work of art.

Congratulations! Portugal has two-if I remember correctly- participants.

Check O Estado do Mondo is a collection of shorts from those directors about their vision of the world today... hmmm, must be hard to watch if make it to this festival... don't you agree?

O Estado do Mundo was a comission from the Calouste Goulbenkian Foundation to celebrate their 50th birthday. What a great idea! But I agree, it must be hard to watch, still, something not to miss.

  4. Thanks for the info. Checked their Portugal site and found nice things in there!

In their blog found that next may 29th they will be showing Spider Lillies... But most interesting is La Rabbia by Pier Paolo Pasolini on may 27th and War and Peace by Anand Patwardhan on May 22th.

Actually I could go to the complete cycle as they're showing very interesting movies!

Wish someone could do a "ciclo de cinema" like that in my country! Hope you have the chance to watch some of them... Lucky you!
