300

After all the buzz and the US$70 million it made during the weekend, I had to watch this movie. Why? Because is a R-rated movie, so the bucks didn’t come from teenagers. This is the third biggest opening for a R-rated movie, after the Matrix Reloaded and The Passion of Christ … and if I watched those movies, why not watch this one?

Based on a graphic novel (or a comic book if you wish) by Frank Miller from Sin City fame, this movie is full of testosterone and a merge between Gladiator and Sin City; but, the difference are the extraordinary special effects and the great use of slow motion.

It is violent and bloody, but not much more than Apocalypto. This is not a movie to watch because of the story or the history accuracy (is about the battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C.), it is a visual experience and according to some viewers is worth the trip to your nearest IMAX.

It is full of gorgeous and tall men and because of this, some viewers call it homoerotic … only one actress in the lead, Lena Heady from Imagine Me & You fame.

In two words, this movie is shameless entertaining, even if you have to close your eyes at some moments.
